What You Need To Know About Life In Middletown, New Jersey

Monmouth County is home to Middletown, New Jersey; one of the largest suburbs in the state with a population of more than 65,000 permanent residents. Being that it is an easy commute to New York City, the town has become a destination spot for professionals that want to live outside the city while still working there.

Families from the city and surrounding area have set their sites on Middletown as one of New Jersey’s more desirable places to call home. The A-rated schools are one of the first reasons that the suburb has been catching the attention of parents. Beyond that, the very low crime ratings provide for a much higher sense of safety.

In many cases, moving out to the suburbs means having to give up the excitement of nightlife and entertainment. However, you can trust that that is not the case here in busy Middletown. There is always something to do around here between shopping, dining out, going to the theater, or attending a local community event. Not to mention, this is one of the only New Jersey suburbs with waterfront access, making spending summers at the beach a breeze.

The economy in Middletown is another one of the many reasons that people of all ages are drawn to living and growing here. There is an unheard of 84% homeownership rate among permanent residents which helps keep the crime rates so low. The job market is rock solid, leading to a median income of more than $100,000 and a median home value of nearly $400,000.

What Residents Say About Living In Middletown, New Jersey

“Middletown is a great location, only forty-five minutes to New York City and fifteen minutes or less to the beach. There are great public schools also!”

“Middletown Township is my hometown. I have lived here for the majority of my life and made countless memories in this town. The people in this community are genuinely caring and some of the best friends I have ever had. Middletown is also an extremely safe community. I have never had any issues having to do with the safety of myself or my loved ones throughout my time in Middletown, legitimizing the fact that it truly is one of the safest towns to live in the United States. The school system is superb, with diversity and teachers that have impacted and shaped me in ways I am forever grateful for.”

Spanning the Navesink River to Sandy Hook Bay, Middletown was a populous province of the Lenape Nation before being discovered by Henry Hudson in 1609. Though the Dutch West India Company would be granted the land, no permanent settlement was formed until 1664 following the British takeover of New Netherland. By the beginning of the Revolutionary War, Middletown had fallen, like the rest of New Jersey, into a state of virtual civil war. Large landholders pledged their loyalty to the Crown whilst surrounded by a growing faction of revolutionaries. Long before the Battle of Monmouth, skirmishes and sectarian vigilantism had broken out sporadically across Middletown; and even after the war, Sandy Hook remained under the control of loyalist forces for no apparent reason beyond simple spite. Once a part of the United States, Middletown, having previously taken up almost half of Monmouth County, was subdivided into numerous smaller townships. Only in 1917 with the incorporation of Keansburg was Middletown shaped into what we know of it today.

Middletown has since blossomed into a prosperous, proletarian ecosystem of diverse localities and neighborhoods, spotted with the natural beauty of the Garden State. Sunbath at the Bayshore Waterfront Park near Ideal Beach or take a stroll through the lush grounds of Deep Cut Gardens. Shop at the many outlets and shopping centers located all across Middletown or chow down at any number of delicious restaurants and eateries. Neighboring Red Bank, Sea Bright and Holmdel and only minutes from Long Branch and Eatontown, Middletown does indeed live up to the name. Centrally located and with award winning schools, both public and private, come home to Middletown.
